The public is invited to a special concert this Friday at the Greene County High School auditorium.
High School Choir Director David Heupel says the second annual All That Jazz Festival will take place all day with several high school jazz choirs performing for the two clinicians who will also put on a performance later that evening. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio Kate Reid from the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music and Charlie Christensen from the Berkeley School of Music in Boston are the clinicians. Additionally, Heupel points out both musicians will get to have a personal clinic with his jazz choir the night before. Heupel is honored to have these two accomplished singers and pianists a part of this year’s All That Jazz.
“This is our 12th year of doing vocal jazz and the names of people we’ve been able to clinic with is just incredible, that’s why we have this facility here. That’s why I wanted to host something like this. Plus this time of the year, later in February, there’s not a lot of those festivals in this area. We found ourselves going to Iowa City, or Cedar Rapids, or Solon, or things that were farther away.”
The concert takes place on Friday at 7pm, with the local high school jazz choir, Ram Jive, kicking things off, followed by the performance from Reid and Christensen. Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased either through the high school main office or at the door.
