Now that the Education Savings Account bill has passed, Iowa schools are trying to figure out how it will affect them.

Panorama Superintendent Shawn Holloway tells Raccoon Valley Radio the impact on the district is yet to be seen, but that he does have some concerns.

“The scary part with that bill passing, I think initially people say, ‘Well, are you going to lose kids to a private school?’ And that’s still to be determined. But I think the bigger question comes in state funding for public education, right? I mean, that’s been traditionally low the last five, ten years, and now the state’s devoting public dollars to private education. And so my concern would be, are we going to get a smaller slice of that pie in the future?”

Holloway sees the State Supplemental Aid being approved for only 3% as an issue as well, with inflation being so much higher than that. He adds that as part of school administration for a smaller district like Panorama, you want to pay staff as much as you can, but also have to make sure that other financials aren’t affected negatively either.
