With the recent snow, there were several accidents in the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Shelby McCreedy says that they have an acronym to help people remember some safe driving tips that are helpful even in ideal travel conditions.

“We always remind drivers to adhere to the four tenets of safety, which our acronym is SIDE. So that’s ‘Seatbelts, don’t drive Impaired, don’t drive Distracted,’ and Excessive speed is the last tenet of safety. So don’t speed, obviously.”

McCreedy adds that when inclement weather is present, drivers need to be aware that road conditions can change at a moment’s notice, and that speed does not mix well with winter weather or other slick conditions.
