The Greene County Development Corporation Board met on Tuesday in regular session.

Board President Sid Jones talked about establishing a multi-cultural family resource center and hiring an advocate position. This would be supporting the initiative to bring Latinos into work and live in Greene County. It would also serve to help apply for grant funds for the initiative as well. Jones pointed out that there is an interested individual from Storm Lake, Sara Huddleston, who was one of the panelists from this past August’s meeting and shared her experiences with the changing landscape of Storm Lake’s population with Latinos.

Jones also talked about Midwest Ministries being interested in either leasing or purchasing outright the former Aureon building that GCDC owns. He said the director of the organization will tour the facility on Sunday and they sent a proposal for them to consider.

GCDC Executive Director Ken Paxton mentioned Kading Properties is considering a contract for rental units to be built on GCDC’s east business park along Highway 30.

Rick Honeycutt with Iowa Works gave a presentation on how their organization is working with Home Base Iowa to create a new online application system for military veterans to find jobs once their military career ends. Paxton said eight veterans have been located in Jefferson since Home Base Iowa began in 2014.

During reports, Greene County Medical Center Chad Butterfield said with the resignation of Susan Moore, they are currently looking for a new Chief Nursing Officer. He mentioned that this past Monday alone, there were 32 patients seen for same day appointments and the pain clinic has expanded to include more days, due to growing demand for that service.
