Four area wrestlers took to the mats on Saturday night at the 2023 State Wrestling Championships inside Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines and all four won individual titles. Winning in the finals were Greene County seniors Kale Petersen (132) and McKinley Robbins (138) in Class 2A and in 3A it was the Waukee Northwest duo of juniors Koufax Christensen (120) and Carter Freeman (132).

The Greene County duo finished unbeaten seasons as they become the sixth and seventh titlists for the Rams. Petersen finished 42-0 with a 7-3 finals win vs. Anders Kittelson from team champion Osage on the strength of three take downs. Robbins went 48-0 for his second title and he was in the finals all four years of his high school career. McKinley used seven take downs en route to a 15-5 major decision. Both are Division I recruits with Petersen, now a three-time champion (2021 for 1A West Fork (Sheffield), committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Robbins is an Oregon State recruit who owns a bundle of Ram program records. This is the first time the Rams have two State Champions in the same season.

The Wolves also have two repeat champions. Freeman is a three-time champion and Christensen has won two titles and both have another year of high school left.

All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations did play-by-play all four days of the tournament and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com streamed the action.
