The Class 1A wrestlers from the Raccoon Valley Radio listening area have completed their portion of Friday’s action at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines at the State Tournament.
The three from our area in the seminfals were Teagan Slaybaugh of ACGC at 120 lbs., Kolton Munson of Ogden at 126 lbs. and Earlham’s Ryan Stiles at 170 lbs., and all three lost. Slaybaugh drops into the Saturday consolation rounds after falling to Teague Smith of West Hancock (Britt) by a 14-5 major decision. Munson lost 4-2 to Dawson Schmitt of Wapsie Valley (Fairbank), and Stiles lost by fall in 1:56 to two-time State Champion Maximus Magayna of Columbus Catholic (Waterloo). Those three will place somewhere between third and sixth, which will be determined Saturday morning and early afternoon.
On the consolation side, Dallas Canoyer of Earlham (106) Kinnick Munson of Ogden (113), Payton Harger of Earlham (126), Blaise Beane (152) of West Central Valley, WCV’s Kaedon Lindsey (170), and ACGC’s Payton Jacobe (185) all lost in consolation round four and were eliminated from the tournament.
Ashton Honnold (195) of Nodaway Valley and Ogden’s David Hammer (285) both won and will be State place winners. Honnold won 5-3 in round four before before losing by fall in :57 in round five, so he will be in the 7th/8th place match on Saturday. Hammer won twice, so he could still finish as high as third on Saturday. The Ogden wrestler won by fall in 5:59 in round four and came away with a 2-1 victory in round five of the consolations.
Wrestling starts at 9 a.m. Saturday and all matches will be broadcast on all three Raccoon Valley Radio stations, along with being streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
