Greene County won its first four matches on Wednesday in the first day of Class 2A State Tournament wrestling in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. They lost their last two for a 4-2 day with four bonus point wins including three falls and a major decision. Greene County was tied for 19th place after day one.

Seniors Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins both stayed undefeated with second round victories after receiving byes in round one. Petersen is the top seed at 132 lbs. and he was a 15-5 major decision winner to improve to 37-0 while Robbins is 45-0, the top seed at 148 need just 46 seconds to win by fall.

Sophomore Brent Dennhardt won his first match by fall, then lost in round two by a 7-2 score. He’s 37-6 on the season and will wrestle in a consolation round at 1:30 p.m. today. Junior Gavin Scheuermann also won his first match by fall, then wasn’t able to hold a lead of 8-2 and lost 11-9 in sudden victory to drop into the consolation side the bracket with a 20-4 record.
