Heavy snowfall is headed to the Raccoon Valley Radio area later tonight.
Weatherology Meteorologist Ray Miller tells Raccoon Valley Radio most of the snowfall begins around 9pm tonight and will last until mid-Thursday morning. He anticipates about 5-6 inches of snowfall, with some areas in Adair County that may see up to ten inches. Miller describes what kind of snowfall people should expect.
“This is going to be the rather heavy, wet snow as well. A lot of moisture content in this, temperatures still not particularly cold, obviously cold enough to produce snowfall, but when we have temperatures in the teens and 20s like we will with this system, you’re talking about very high water content in the snow. So it’s going to be very slushy and heavy snowfall as well.”
Miller points out that with snowfall expected tonight, that may cause some headaches for motorists.
“With that heavy, wet snow Wednesday night into Thursday, there will very likely be icy patches here and there, a little bit of a layer of ice underneath the snow. So the roadways Wednesday night into Thursday likely to be quite slick.”
Miller adds the temperatures will quickly climb back close to freezing on Friday and then in the 40s by the weekend.
