Dallas Center-Grimes boys wrestling team headed to Lewis Central High School for the district tournament on Saturday.

In the class 3A District 5 tournament as a team Dallas Center-Grimes scored 173 points which was good enough for third place out of eight teams. The Mustangs had seven seniors qualify and 10 total for the state tournament in Des Moines. It started with Ayden Beck losing in the championship round by a sudden victory to a wrestler from Lewis Central but Beck would place second in the 113 pound division. . Logan Gard wrestled at 126 and rattled off two wins to put himself in the final where he lost to Carter Freeman from Waukee Northwest in a fall. Carson Springer won his first match by a decision but later fell in the semi-final but battled back to beat Hayden Cramer from Council Bluffs to win the 138 pound division consolation bracket and qualify. Luke Benson would have a similar experience winning his first round matchup but would lose in the semi-final and later rebound and win the 145 pound division consolation bracket over James Lemon from Dension-Schleswig and qualify. Ethan Riesselman would also take third place at 152 lb. with a win over Jayden Davis from Lewis Central in a fall and continue his season into Des Moines. Then Brendan Smith qualified in the 160 pound division lost in the semi-final and placed second. Senior Jacob Fistler would win all three of his district matches in the 170lb bracket and take first over Braylon Kammrad from Lewis Central. Finally, senior Ben Brushaber was able to qualify for the state wrestling tournament in the 182 bracket. Also junior Lane Nelsen (195) and freshman Blake Forrester in the 120 bracket qualified.

 

All ten wrestlers will take the trip to the 2023 IHSAA State Wrestling Tournament from February 15-18 at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Raccoon Valley Radio will have full coverage throughout all four days of the state tournament.
