The Greene County Sheriff’s Office continues to make a commitment to keeping tobacco and nicotine out of the hands of underage individuals.
The Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Iowa Alcoholic Beverages Division for the I-PLEDGE program that educates local retailers and enforces the state’s laws for tobacco, alternative nicotine and vapor products. As part of the program, the Sheriff’s Office conducts compliance checks with local establishments. An underage customer, under the supervision of a law enforcement official, attempts to buy tobacco, alternative nicotine or vapor products. If a clerk makes an illegal sale, they will be cited on the spot.
Since I-PLEDGE began in 2000, the statewide tobacco compliance rate is 91-percent.
