After not much competition the last three weeks, the Greene County wrestling team goes to Webster City tomorrow for a Class 2A District Tournament, the qualifying method for the Feb. 15-18 State Tournament in Des Moines at Wells Fargo Arena. The first and second place finishers in each weight class advance to State. In addition to #5 Webster City, Greene County is ranked #7, and strong contingents are expected from Carroll, Humboldt, and Hampton-Dumont. Gilbert, Roland-Story (Story City), and Southeast Valley (Gowrie) round out the field. Action starts at 10 a.m.
Zach Beekman is head coach of the Rams and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the layoff heading into the postseason. “This year it’s been good to us because we were a little banged up coming off the week of the conference tournament and Ed Winger Classic. We had guys really beat up, so to kind of tail off the way we did really worked out well for us. This week has been good. We’ve been practicing really hard and we’ve got guys really getting after it. We’ll be ready to go.”
All three Raccoon Valley Radio stations will have District wrestling reports throughout the day tomorrow on 1A, 2A, and 3A sites where our area teams will be competing.
