Dallas Center-Grimes girls wrestlers had a fantastic day two of the IGHSAU State Wrestling Championships on Friday.
Maya Fritz in the 170 pound division, would battle in the consolation bracket defeating Louise Meyers (Central Lyon/Little Rock) in double overtime by an escape and then would take on Bella Porcello (Southeast Polk) in the fifth wrestle back. Porcello would beat Fritz in a decision by a score of 4 to 1. Fritz would go on and drop in the seventh place match against Izzy Strickert (Independence) by a fall in 2:16. But she is now the first ever wrestler in Dallas Center-Grimes school history to place at the IGHSAU State Wrestling Championship at eighth.
In day two, Bella Mulder had a date in the consolation bracket in the fourth wrestle back of the 135-bracket with Lizzy Wolf (Benton Community). Wolf would win this matchup in a decision 8 to 5. Also coming into day two, Ava Gannon was still alive in the consultation bracket but would lose that fourth wrestle back matchup in the 105-pound bracket to McKenna Rotgers (Solon) by a fall in 3:38. The inaugural IGHSAU State Wrestling Tournament turned out to be a success for Dallas Center-Grimes with seven qualifiers winning 13 total matches.
