A Grand Junction man faces an attempted murder charge following an alleged weekend incident.

According to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the incident happened at 9:52pm Saturday when a 911 call came from 1002 Main Street East in Grand Junction. The caller said they fell and hit their head against a door. When Grand Junction Rescue arrived on scene and assessed the victim, they advised the sheriff’s office of a possible gunshot wound. Greene County Ambulance also assisted at the scene.

Captain Shane Allen with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office confirms to Raccoon Valley Radio that 31-year-old Adam Coy of Grand Junction was arrested and charged with a Class B Felony for attempted murder, a Class C Felony for willful injury-causing serious injury and an aggravated misdemeanor for domestic abuse assault with intent to inflict serious injury. 

According to court documents, Coy intentionally discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim with the intent of killing her. The bullet struck the back of her head. Allen confirms that the victim is alive at this time.

The sheriff’s office determined this was an isolated incident and there was no danger to the public following Saturday night’s incident. Coy was arrested and booked into the Greene County Jail at 10:38am Sunday. He remains in jail under a $100,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing at this time with assistance from DCI.
