The Jefferson American Legion Post #11 is offering a scholarship opportunity for certain graduating high school seniors.

The $500 Floyd W. Brown Scholarship is for any graduating public school or homeschooled senior and they must be a son or daughter of an honorably discharged veteran. This year the scholarship is made possible by the generous donation from the family of John Peters. He was a certified registered nurse anesthetist in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was honored with the Army Commendation Medal. Peters earned that distinction from when he worked in the operating room for 36 straight hours during the Tet Offensive. Peters passed away last year.

Deadline to submit scholarship applications is March 3rd. The applications are available at the Greene County High School guidance office. Contact scholarship chair Dan Wise at 515-370-0791.
