A lot of the hunting seasons have expired in Iowa but rabbit season continues through the month.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer for Dallas County Dustin Eighmy says that rabbit cottontail hunting started last September and will end on February 28th. Eighmy encourages young hunters just getting into the sport to try rabbit hunting.
“We still have rabbit season and you know, with the snow on the ground it’s easy to be driving along the road or something, or out there in the timber or something, just walking the ditches and stuff. You can see those rabbits with that snowfall. So it’s a good time to get someone interested and get a youngster out there and shoot a rabbit.”
The shooting hours are from sunrise to sunset with a daily limit of 10 and possession limit of 20.
