The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Thursday.

During reports, it was mentioned that the representative for Central Iowa Community Services who works with Greene County residents, is going to be in the county one day per week on Wednesdays, due to the individual taking over another county for mental health services.

County Attorney Thomas Laehn said a grand jury has been impaneled. They have the authority to indicate individuals or inspect the county jail, which they recently did.

County Environmental and Zoning Administrator Chuck Wenthold talked about legislation that was recently introduced in the Iowa Legislature. He said there is a bill that wouldn’t allow eminent domain to happen for private companies and another bill that sets a threshold of 90-percent agreement with property owners before eminent domain could be used. These bills were in relation to the several carbon dioxide pipelines that are wanting to go through the state.

The Board then approved to terminate the 28E agreement with Iowa Workforce Development and the Chief Elected Official Consortium. It was mentioned that the assistance that the Iowa Workforce once provided to help individuals get jobs was reducing every year and the Board felt that their representation was no longer needed. Laehn said by terminating the agreement, the county would still be in a region, but no longer have a say in how federal funds were spent.

The Board also approved the recommendation by the County Compensation Board. The recommendation was for the county sheriff to receive 13.5-percent and all other elected county officials to get a 6.5-percent increase in salaries. Finally, they discussed the increase in salaries for other county employees to match close to 6.5-percent.
