Adel-DeSoto-Minburn High School is excited about the number of acts they’ll be sending to the Iowa High School Speech Association State Large Group Contest.

ADM High School had nine teams that received a division one rating at the district contest and will now be performing at the state competition. The categories include One Acting, Reader’s Theatre, Choral Reading, Ensemble Acting, Improv, Radio News, and TV News. Speech Coach Jacque Seidl tells Raccoon Valley Radio what it was like working with her students.

“We had a really great group this year. Lots of new faces, but also lots of veterans that have been in speech for many years. So it was kind of fun to see some of those veteran speech members kind of take those newbies under their wings and kind of show them what large group speech looks like.”

Siedl says that large group speech is not an easy activity that requires  time and hard work ethic commitment. She says they have been practicing one or two times a week for close to three hours to build that team chemistry.

“We started practice back at the beginning of November to be prepared for that district level contest and now between district and state, we keep those same practices and we really talk about increasing the level of performance that there’s a district level performance. But now state level performance needs to be even stronger than what we took to the district.”

The State Large Group Speech Contest for ADM will take place at Waukee High School on February 4th.
