Greene County has varsity wrestling in Jefferson on Tuesday, girls’ basketball Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and boys’ basketball Tuesday and Friday, plus Greene County Athletic Hall of Fame activities are Thursday and Friday.
Coach Zach Beekman’s wrestlers get things started with a home triangular added to the schedule some 10 days ago. ACGC and Urbandale are the other teams wrestling in Jefferson at the high school with action starting at 6 p.m. Fans get to see the Rams at home one final time this season and the regular season ends with the triangular. The Rams will have some time away from competition before going to Webster City on Feb. 11 for a 2A District Tournament, which is the qualifier for the Feb. 15-18 State Tournament in Des Moines.
The Rams play a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Perry on Tuesday night and host Nevada in another twin bill on Friday evening. In between, the girls play at Des Moines Hoover on Thursday.
Athletic Hall of Fame ceremonies will be Thursday at the high school starting with social time in the commons area at 6 p.m., followed by the introduction of the Hall of Fame class at 6:45 p.m. in the auditorium. Thursday’s ceremony is free and open to the public as former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Bryce Paup from Scranton high school, State Champion and Drake Relays Champion sprinter Allison Drewry, brothers and first team All-State baseball players Mark and Kelly Lane, all Jefferson-Scranton graduates, and longtime local radio broadcaster Doug Rieder are the inductees. They will be introduced before the home basketball crowd on Friday night between varsity basketball games.
