A reminder that the Dallas County Conservation Board will have a program for those that love Iowa history.

“Iowa Pioneers and Land” program is sponsored by the conservation board and will be held at the Forest Park Museum in Perry from 1:30 to 2:30pm tomorrow.  Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says he will tell stories from the early 1800’s of the interactions of Iowa wildlife and landscape.

“I’m going to be using several of my readings, the main one is ‘A Country So Full of Game,’ which is by James Dinsmore, who’s one of the several famous biologists from Iowa State (University). And what he did was I’ve done some of this, but he did it comprehensively, much more so than any other researchers going through all of Iowa’s old records, and particularly the old county histories and the 18/19 century Iowa histories of each county are really good. They’ve got great stories. I like to say, ‘They’re not necessarily G-rated,’ so you gotta keep that in mind. But they are really entertaining.”

Malmberg says this program will be a monthly series on Sundays with future dates to be announced. Registration is encouraged to be notified if the event gets canceled due to weather conditions.
