As individuals become older, they may end up needing help with everyday tasks.
New Homestead Social Worker and Marketing Manager Melissa Borgeson says that when that happens, assisted living can be a big help. There are some downfalls along with the benefits though. Borgeson says that the big, and really only downfall of moving into assisted living is the loss of independence. She mentions that nobody wants to have to rely on others for help, and the staff at New Homestead understands that.
Borgeson tells Raccoon Valley Radio that one of the biggest benefits of assisted living is help with medication management.
“I think that that’s one thing that family members don’t always see, because they’re not always there when their family members are taking their medications. But those can easily get switched around. They can easily miss them if they’re not in a planner. Even if they are in a planner, they could take the wrong day or too many. It’s very, very common for seniors to mismanage medications. I think that’s one of the best benefits.”
Borgeson adds that some other benefits are the maintenance free apartments, three prepared meals a day with the option of being able to do some cooking in the apartment, and each individual being able to decorate their living space.
