The high school wrestling postseason is just over two weeks away and Greene County remains prominent in the Class 2A rankings from IAwrestle. The team did not make the top 24 in the dual meet rankings and will miss out on dual meet regional competition, mainly due to forfeiting four or five of the 14 weight classes nearly every time they take the mat. The State Tournament rankings are a different matter with a number seven ranking as a team and three individuals ranked in the top 10.

Seniors Kale Petersen (132) and McKinley Robbins (138) are both ranked number one in their 2A weight classes and junior Gavin Scheuermann (160) is ranked ninth. Petersen is undefeated, Robbins’ only loss is by medical forfeit, and Scheuermann has just two losses, one to a class 1A 2022 State Champion and the other to a 3A top 10 ranked wrestler.

The Rams will send a partial squad to Guthrie Center this Saturday for the ACGC Charger Invitational, then host ACGC and Urbandale on Jan. 31 in the high school in Jefferson to end the regular season as well as the dual meet schedule. Coach Zach Beekman’s squad goes to Webster City on Feb. 11 for a District Tournament, where State Tournament qualifiers are determined.
