Greene County is 6-4 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and 7-8 overall on the boys’ basketball season two-thirds of the way through the campaign. The Rams won two close road games last week and host West Marshall (State Center) tomorrow night as part of a girl/boy doubleheader at the high school gym in Jefferson. The Trojans are coming off a big win of their own on Tuesday in State Center when they knocked off Nevada, 60-54, handing the Cubs just their third HOIAC loss with the other two coming vs. league leader Roland-Story (Story City).
Chris Nelson is the head coach of the Rams and he talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the confidence the players showed in the latest victories. “I just think our guys are playing confidently and they felt they should beat these teams, so in their minds they never doubted they weren’t going to win, and that goes a long ways when you’re trailing a little bit. We’d gotten off to two good starts in both games, so it was a matter of finding that again, and we did in the middle of the fourth quarter in each of those games and made some shots when we needed to and got stops when we needed to.”
The Rams hosting the Trojans can be heard tomorrow night on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 o’clock with the boys to follow.
