Dallas Center-Grimes basketball teams hit the road for the last of a long stretch against Newton on Tuesday.

Emma Miner entered the game needing 12 points to reach 1,000 career points and she start the game scoring 11 points in the first half. Miner then with 3:35 left in the third quarter would score a layup with a foul included to reach that milestone on 1,000 career points.

The Mustangs would play excellent defense all night giving up 3 points in the first two quarters and then allowing 11 points in the third quarter and just four in the fourth quarter. Dallas Center-Grimes girls would go on the road and beat the Cardinals 59 to 21 and improve to (9-0) in conference and (13-3). Emma Miner would finish with 20 points and Josie Lampe would add 7.

The DCG boys team was trying to avenge a loss to Newton early in game number 3 of the season. The Mustangs fell down two points at half, 23 to 25. And they would also trail at the end of three periods 37 to 39. The fourth quarter was tightly contested by both teams but a 7 to 0 run from the Cardinals late into the game would seal it for Newton, 58 to 52. DCG falls to (3-4) in conference and (8-6) overall. Jonathan Howard led all scorers with 18 points and four 3 pointers.

The Mustangs will take on Oskaloosa on Friday at home on and those games will be broadcasted live on KDLS-2.
