The Jefferson Fire Department was on scene of a residential fire Thursday morning.
The fire department, along with the Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Ambulance responded to the call of a home filled with smoke at 405 East State Street. The homeowner and two cats made it out safely. Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams said there was mostly smoke inside the house, but there was an item that caught fire in the upper story that was quickly extinguished. The suspected origin of the incident was in the basement.
