A state senator is chairing a new committee which already has garnered some topical discussions.

District 24 Senator Jesse Green (R-Boone) is the chair of the senate local government committee. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the big talking point this session for this committee is compensation board reform. Green says counties look to compensation boards for recommendations of salary increases and he explains issues that this has created.

“In certain circumstances (compensation boards) has taken away some of the power of elected officials (board of supervisors) to adjust or decrease salaries that they need to make within their own counties. So some supervisors that you talk to want to eliminate compensation boards,  some just want reform.”

Green says another issue that he believes is non-controversial is about local farmers markets.

“Farmers market participants have to get permits in each county (they sell items at) and I would like to make that uniform across the state. Try to deregulate that and try to get rid of some of those unnecessary burdens.”

Green is looking forward to chairing this committee and seeing what bills can get passed onto the full house floor for consideration.
