Talks are in the works to bring natural gas to Stuart.

Stuart Economic Development Director Matt Funk says that negotiations have been taking place with MidAmerican Energy to bring natural gas into town. He mentions that these negotiations have been going on for some time now.

“It’s a very slow process. We have gotten closer. It’s something that I had actually started on, or was a piece of, when I was on the City Council eight years ago. So I had reached out to MidAmerican Energy then, (and) others have as well. We have gotten closer, but we’re not close enough yet. But we are in negotiations with them, and they have been willing to communicate with us.”

Funk is hopeful that an agreement can happen soon for a natural gas pipeline into Stuart.
