Dallas Center Grimes basketball teams struggle in their girl/boy non-conference doubleheader Tuesday night.
The DCG girls basketball team was looking for their eighth win in a row against the Ankeny Hawks that was coming off two straight losses to very good opponents. The Mustangs would fall down early and just not able to catch up. In the first quarter, the Hawks held DCG to just four points and then they continued to score the basketball which found themselves up 33 to 16 at half. Dallas Center-Grimes had no answer for the Ankeny guard play of Savannah Gage, who finished with 15 points and Karsen Jacks added 14. Finley Fitzgerald scored nine points and Emma Minor was held to just seven points.
The final score would be 61 to 44 and would send the Lady Mustangs to a record of (11-3) on the season.
Much like the girls game, the DCG boys basketball team started slow. They trailed at intermission 29 to 23 and even fell behind by eight at the end of the third period. Mustangs carved into the lead in the fourth quarter even getting within four with five minutes to go, 50 to 46. Jackson Green would hit a big three pointer down the stretch with 32 seconds remaining to cut the deficit to just two points, 58 to 56. It wasn’t enough, Ankeny’s Carson Jonhson shot the ball too well from distance hitting four 3 pointers and collected 21 points and Lio Anguirre added 11 points. Final score was 63 to 58 Ankeny winning. Dallas Center-Grimes is now (7-4) on the season.
Next game for the Mustangs will be against a Little Hawkeye opponent in Grinnel on the road that game can be heard on KDLS 99.7 or 1310 or on the live stream on Raccoon Valley Radio.com.
