The current legislative session has already started, and Adair County residents may have noticed a name change in their representation.
Adair County was added to the 12th Senate District, which is overseen by Amy Sinclair. She’s the current Iowa Senate President, only the fourth woman to be appointed to the position in Iowa’s history. She says that she has a variety of experiences from before working in the senate, and believes that those help her help her constituents. Sinclair adds that she worked in education for sometime in Decatur, Clark and Wayne Counties, before working as a county supervisor. She mentions a quality that many previous constituents have appreciated.
“I’m pretty plain spoken. Hopefully the folks in Adair County will appreciate that. I used to have Marion and Jasper County, and then Clark, Decatur, Wayne and Lucas, and that’s been the one thing I’ve been known for, was some pretty plain talk and honest dialogue. And so hopefully the folks in Adair County will appreciate that about me, like my district has for the last several years.”
She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that she has been to Adair County a few times, as she has been invited to a few events, and has sat in on some public forums hosted by Iowa House District 23 Representative Ray Sorensen last year. Sinclair lives and has raised her family on a farm that has belonged to her family since the late 1800’s, even though it currently is not being farmed.
