There was a fatal accident in Dallas County involving a resident from Adel on Thursday.

According to the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a two vehicle crash at 5:58pm on the 2700 block of Highway 6. A passenger in one of the vehicles, Riley Scharper ,28-years-old from Adel, suffered severe injuries. Scharper was extricated from the vehicle by first responders and flown by helicopter to the Mercy One Hospital in Des Moines for treatment, where later pronounced dead from the injuries. The driver of the other vehicle, 60-year-old Steven Morrell  from rural Adel, was transported by ambulance for minor injuries. Dallas County Deputies, Dallas County EMS, Adel First Responders, Dallas Center First Responders, and the Waukee Fire Department all responded to the scene. The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the incident.
