Greene County wrestlers Kale Petersen and McKinley Robbins have had highly decorated careers, and both are on the verge of adding to what they’ve already accomplished.
Robbins has 144 career victories and 82 falls in 3-1/2 seasons of high school wrestling. The late Chase Flack holds the mark for the most career wins at 147 for the Jefferson-based wrestling program and Travis Forkner is the holder of the most falls in a career for the Rams at 85. Both wrestled for the program when it was known as Jefferson-Scranton/Paton-Churdan. Robbins already owns numerous records and is not done accomplishing what no one else in program history has. He is 28-0 this season and is a three-time Class 2A State Wrestling Tournament finalist, the first in program history to do so, winning a title in 2021 and finishing second in 2020 and ’22.
Petersen is closing in on 100 career wins. He transferred to Greene County at the start of the 2021-22 school year from Class 1A West Fork High School (Sheffield) where he placed sixth at State as a freshman and first as a sophomore. He won a Class 2A title for the Rams last February and is 94-9 in his career including 38-0 for Greene County. He’s won 57 matches in a row dating back to his sophomore season and currently is 25-0 this season.
Coach Zach Beekman’s Rams are on the road in Jewell tonight for Heart of Iowa Activities Conference matches against South Hamilton and PCM (Monroe). The Rams are 9-7 in dual meets overall and 3-0 in the conference. They’ll wrestle on Saturday at the Perry Invitational before the final home meet of the season on Jan. 17 with Roland-Story (Story City) and West Marshall (State Center).
