Iowa District 23 Representative Ray “Bubba” Sorensen is looking to revisit some bills that didn’t pass last session.
Sorensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio one bill that he’s really wanting to try and get to pass this session would hold bad teachers accountable. He adds that this bill wouldn’t affect all teachers of course, just those that do things they shouldn’t. Sorensen mentions one reason he wants to get this bill passed.
“I think there was a story of a teacher that had molested a student, and the school district kind of brushed it under the rug, and he was able to be hired at another school district. Well, we want to hold those bad actors accountable. We don’t want bad teachers to continue to bounce around from school district to school district and continue to be bad teachers. We want, obviously, accountability”
Another bill that Sorensen wants to work on again would help with alternative teacher licensing. He says that while education isn’t the only industry with a shortage of employees, having enough teachers to give children a good education is important to him.
