At the end of the day, the pheasant season will come to an end until next year.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Dallas County Conservation Officer Dustin Eighmy describes the sport this year as a successful season with the help of the fantastic weather. Eighmy explains that a dry spring, mild winter, and an early harvest sets up for a healthy pheasant population.
“It always helps when the crops are taken out a little bit earlier. If you get good weather, the farmers can get in the fields and get those crops out and push those birds that are maybe in the corner of the beans to that habitat that the hunters are usually hunting. And with that, when an early harvest season happens, we tend to see a little bit more people out in the field and a little bit better harvest numbers.”
Eighmy expects there will be more hunters and birds harvested this season than last year.
