January is National Mental Wellness Month and the Dallas County Health Department encourages people to be proactive.
Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran explains that people let their depression gradually get worse without seeking help. Cochran says anyone struggling with mental health has local options that can provide assistance like the Southwest Iowa Mental Health Center along with the Dallas County Hospital’s Every Step program which provides a Grief Support Group.
“So there’s a lot of different parts to our mental wellness and lots of resources out there. You simply can call health navigation here at the health Department and we can connect you to something that is a good fit for what you’re needing.”
Cochran notes there are some lifestyle changes that can enhance someone’s mental wellness like joining a support group, gym, club or just getting outside activity. More information can be found by contacting the health department.
