A main topic that the Iowa lawmakers will be dealing with this legislative session is about school vouchers.

Iowa Representative Ray “Bubba” Sorensen believes that one way or another, a bill on school vouchers will be passed this legislative session. Sorensen mentions that school vouchers is something that Governor Kim Reynolds promoted heavily during her campaign for re-election this past year, so he doesn’t see how a bill won’t be brought forward again this year. He adds that most likely different versions will be presented on multiple fronts.

Sorensen tells Raccoon Valley Radio his thoughts on the topic.

“And for me, I’m open to the idea. But the devil is in the details. You want something that isn’t going to harm our public schools. You want to try and make sure, if we’re going to do this, let’s do a complete education reform. Let’s get our public schools some freedom and creativity in spending. You know, tear down their spending silos.”

Sorensen says that knocking down those spending silos will help school boards and superintendents on what they use funds for, allowing them to do more things that would be beneficial for their school districts.
