The 2023 portion of Greene County High School’s wrestling season began last night with a quadrangular at Ft. Dodge St. Edmond. Greene County went 2-1 on the night with wins over the host Gaels and Iowa Falls-Alden and a loss to Ames. The Rams now stand at 7-7 in dual meets on the season after being 1-6 at one point.

Ames was up first for the Rams and Greene County fell to the Class 3A Little Cyclones 51-28. The Rams gave up four forfeits while collecting just one. Ames won five of the nine matches actually contested.

St. Edmond was the second team Greene County met and the Rams won 45-24. Of the six matches actually contested, the Rams won five.

The evening finished with a dual meet with IF-A and Greene County won 57-17, and again the Rams won five of the six contested matches. For the evening, the Rams went 14-7 in matches actually contested.

Rams going 3-0 on the night were Gavyn Winters at 106 lbs. with three forfeits, Jacob Harmeyer (113) made his season debut with three wins by fall, McKinley Robbins at 138 had a fall, a forfeit, and a 20-6 major decision, Brent Dennhardt (145) collected two falls and a forfeit, Jackson Turner (152) two falls and a 10-7 decision. Every Greene County wrestler collected at least one victory and the Rams were 14-7 in the contested matches.

Ames went 3-0 with the Rams 2-1, IF-A 1-2, and 0-3 for St. Edmond.

Next up is the Rollin Dyer Invitational tomorrow at Atlantic High School. Action begins at 10 a.m.
