The Greene County Treasurer’s Office will continue to issue driver’s licenses for county and surrounding residents.
The County Board of Supervisors approved the renewal of a 28E agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation to provide that service, which County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen says is important for those individuals they serve, and it isn’t a money maker for the county.
“In fact, the county only gets $7 per card that we issue that hardly covers the staff’s benefits who does the driver’s license. All the other money to provide that service and to cover that salary comes straight from the taxpayers of Greene County.”
Mechaelsen points out about half of the clients are from out of county and she explains why that is.
“We do try to be polite and efficient, and a lot of people from bigger counties and bigger cities want that one-on-one customer service, and that’s something I really pride my office in providing.”
Mechaelsen requests those needing to do test drives, issue a driver’s license, non-operator’s identification cards and persons with disabilities devices should schedule an appointment by contacting her office at 515-386-5675.
