The Greene County Medical Center Board of Trustees held their final meeting of 2022 in December.

Part of that meeting with the selection of board officers, the Board approved appointing long-time board members Jim Schleisman as chair and Doug Hawn will continue as vice chair, while Bill Raney will also serve as secretary/treasurer. Following that, CEO Chad Butterfield brought up another topic for discussion about board succession.

“At some point, prior to joining the organization, there was an exercise where each of the Trustees created a list of folks that could be potential trustees and I’ve not been able to identify that list. And even if we did, the fear was that is that list too old?”

Schleisman talked about what could happen to the Board once a change in the number of years for a term happens.

“The thing of it is just the past election were five members that were on the ballot. Okay, now because of term change from six years to four years, in two years there’s four (on the ballot) so we could lose four (current) members.”

An example was given of how someone from the public with a possible personal agenda would have ran this past election after the Board decided earlier in the year to close long term care. However, only the current board members were on the ballot. The Board was asked for each member to compile a list of potential candidates and they are asking the public to contact them if they have any good candidates in mind as well.
