The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Tuesday in regular session, due to the observance of the Christmas holiday on Monday.

The meeting started with the county-elected officials that won their respective elections this past November were sworn-in. Those individuals included Supervisor-Elect Dan Benitz and Supervisor Dawn Rudolph, along with County Attorney Thomas Laehn, County Recorder Deb McDonald and County Treasurer Katlynn Mechaelsen.

During reports, Laehn requested the supervisors to have all non-county department entities that submit fiscal year funding requests, to fill out a form and develop an ongoing 28E agreement, as recommended by the State Auditor’s Office. County Engineer Wade Weiss reported that secondary road crews worked Saturday through Monday to clear the roads of snow from the recent blizzard. He felt they did a wonderful job and worked hard the entire time.

Next, the Board heard about the property valuation report from Tax Coordinator Pam Olreich. She said overall the county’s valuation for 2022 was up 2.32-percent.

Then the Board approved part of a Louis Dreyfus funding request for the Grand Junction Library of $1,200 of their $1,891 request, with the contingency of being awarded a Greene County Community Foundation grant and getting the rest of their request from another source to improve the overall lighting inside the library.

The Board also heard several more 2024 fiscal year funding requests from New Opportunities of over $19,500, Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity of $5,000, the Bell Tower Festival for $5,000 and Jefferson Matters: A Main Street and Chamber Community of $7,000. No action was taken by the Board, as they handle all requests during budgetary time.

Finally, the Board celebrated retiring Supervisor Tom Contner with a resolution for his 12 years of service on the Board.
