The Iowa Department of Natural Resources in Guthrie County is getting ready for some fun events to start off 2023.

The first thing they’ll be part of is the First Day Hikes. These are hikes that are taking place all across the state for the new year, and Guthrie County’s will be on January 1st at 1pm. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan says that the hikes are a way for people to get out and exercise to get a good start on the year. Hikers will need to meet at the park house/office. Once the two mile hike is over, participants can warm up with some hot chocolate back at the park house/office.

Riordan tells Raccoon Valley Radio that isn’t the only thing planned, and that she will also be leading some classes and webinars for Guthrie County residents. The classes include some pop up cross country skiing, winter art projects and winter birding with a DNR avian ecologist. She adds that some of the topics the webinars go over are ice safety and ice fishing.

For more information on the classes and webinars, contact Riordan by calling or emailing her. Those ways to contact here are included below.
