Greene County High School’s varsity basketball teams are preparing for the 2023 portion of the season. Head boys’ coach Chris Nelson was asked about the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference race, which is led by undefeated Roland-Story (Story City), ranked third in Class 2A, followed by Nevada, which has lost only to R-S. The other six teams in the league appear to be relatively even. “In my seven years here, this might be the most balanced. In the past we’ve kind of had the top, the middle, then the bottom. This year, if you don’t show up ready to play you could end up losing to about anybody, at home or away, so we’ve just got to make sure we handle our things as well as we can, and we hope to get some shots to fall along the way.”

The Rams begin 2023 at home at the high school in Jefferson on Monday, Jan. 2 with a non-conference girl/boy doubleheader with Webster City on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage begins at 5:45 p.m. with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
