There aren’t many out for wrestling this season at Greene County High School, but among those on the team are sophomore Braeden Turner. Seriously injured when hit by a vehicle early in his freshman year of high school, he’s contributing to the team, although not yet wrestling. Head coach Zach Beekman says he’s at every practice unless he has a medical appointment. “He’s always there in the morning, and he’s got horse chores to do before we starting lifting (weights) and we start lifting at 6:20 a.m., so he’s up and doing that stuff early. He does everything we ask him to do and he’s even cutting a little weight so he can make 160 lbs.”

The coach added, “He’s doing what he’s supposed to be doing. It’s not like he just shows up and puts on a singlet. He’s got to put in the work and he’s got to earn his time to get out there on the competition mat. He’s not quite ready to wrestle yet, but he’s helped our team by taking forfeits and we like to see him out there and being able to do that, and it’s kind of a reward for him to go out there and earn those varsity points.” Turner stepped on the mat to collect two forfeits in the Rams final 2022 competition on Dec. 20 when the Rams went 4-0 in dual meets to improve to 5-6 on the season.
