While most people are watching out for environmental illnesses during winter, there’s one other common place to get sick from.

Guthrie County Public Health Director Jotham Arber says that foodborne illnesses can also be a big issue. There are different viruses and bacteria that can be picked up, and in some cases parasites can make their way into someone’s body as well. He gives some advice on how to stay healthy when making food.

“We want to make sure that we’re preparing our meals well and that we’re using sanitary equipment and making sure that we are doing our best to limit any virus spread.”

Arber tells Raccoon Valley Radio that when cooking, viruses and bacteria usually come from unsanitary workspaces, and parasites come from underprepared foods.
