The Perry School Board at their most recent meeting approved to renew their contract with the city of Perry to have a School Resource Officer (SRO).

The Perry Community School District pledged to support 75 percent of the SRO’s salary that includes training and extra expenses that incur during the agreement period. The city would pay for 25 percent of the officers salary which includes training and expenses. Superintendent Clark Wicks expresses that this agreement is positive for the district and they are lucky to have Officer Josh Moore as their SRO.

“It’s one that has helped us. It helped students greatly, and it’s just good to have as many layers, reasonable layers of safety as possible. So plus, you know, we’re working together, city, (the) school, working together for the betterment of this community, and specifically in this case, it’s helping the school a great deal in our students.”

Wicks expects a full-time officer in the building to help teach support programs as well as reduce substance abuse, truancy, assaults and thefts, and improve school safety. The contract goes into place this school year and will be automatically renewed next year unless there is intent to terminate the agreement.
