Greene County residents are reminded of a deadline for certain recreation vehicles to get registered for the upcoming new year.

Greene County Recorder Deb McDonald says snowmobiles and off-highway vehicles must register by December 31st in order to operate them on snowmobile trails, public ice or the OHV parks in 2023. Anyone who registers these vehicles after January 1st will be assessed a $5 penalty, along with the registration fee.

Those who operate these vehicles with a permit for both resident and non-resident will also expire on December 31st. However, there is no late penalty for a permit user that purchases their 2023 permit after January 1st. User permits are required for resident and non-resident snowmobiles that are used on public land and ice. A non-resident for off-road vehicles that are registered in their home state, must still display a user permit. Finally, any resident who has an off-highway vehicle doesn’t need a permit.
