A big part of winter is the snow and ice which in some cases could greatly impact roadways more severely than other times of the winter season.
Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright says one major thing that happens is that people can hit slick spots and end up in the ditch. He notes after getting stuck in a ditch, the next move would be to call a tow truck. In certain weather conditions though, it might not be possible to have one come get a vehicle out though, and Arganbright tells Raccoon Valley Radio why that is.
“When it gets too bad, and visibility is down to zero, then it’s dangerous to tow vehicles out of the ditch. And then they’ll implement a tow ban. We’ll implement it or the state will implement a tow ban when it’s blizzard conditions.”
Arganbright mentions that another reason a tow ban might be in place is if county or state roads are closed because they are covered and road crews can’t get out to clear them.
