Greene County is currently experiencing the calm before the storm.

Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss tells Raccoon Valley Radio secondary road crews have been out since 5am this morning and they have hardly put any sand and salt material on the roads, due to the snow mostly blowing off by itself. He mentions that the entire county has been plowed and cleared of snow, but crews will remain out until 5pm as they monitor and will respond to any drifting of snow on the roads.

Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says city crews have been out since 4am and the entire town has been cleared of snow from curb to curb. He points out crews are currently clearing the downtown square of the windrows in the middle of the streets. However, Morlan notes the snow ordinance will remain in effect for the downtown area, where parking is prohibited from 2-6am, so that crews can come back tomorrow morning to clear the snow from businesses pushing snow into the street.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams says they’ve responded to two broken-down semi tractor-trailers this morning as the only weather-related traffic calls. The National Weather Service is calling for higher winds between 30 and 40 miles per hour this afternoon, which could cause snow to drift, especially in open wide areas.

Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information as it becomes official.
