Greene County Medical Center is supporting a free program that starts next year for a certain group of individuals.

The medical center is launching the National Diabetes Prevention Program in January that is focused on people who have been diagnosed with prediabetes or are at high risk of the disease through a self-guided assessment. It is a year long, online program that includes 26 video lessons, regular virtual meetings with a personal Lifestyle Coach, and support from the online community. This program is designed to make a sustainable, healthy lifestyle change with establishing attainable goals for weight loss, eating healthier, increasing physical activity and reducing stress to prevent diabetes.

According to the medical center, one in three US residents are prediabetes and this disease overall has an annual estimated cost for healthcare services at $170 billion.

Those individuals who are prediabetes or are at high risk for the disease, contact the medical center at 515-386-0469 or email them at diabetes-prevention@gcmchealth.com
