The Dallas County Health Department is urging consumers that are in the hunt or already bought gifts for Christmas to check for a recall.

Health Navigation Coordinator Ann Cochran says people can protect themselves before they purchase electronics, toys or other high value items by using the Consumer Product Safety Commission website to see if a product has been recalled. Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this website adds products every week that are sold in the United States. She describes some examples of the types of items that are on the recall list.

“On the list right now is an office chair for a home office that the pedestal has a tendency to collapse while the person is sitting on it. There are quite a few products that are recalled that are children’s items that were made outside of the United States that contain lead and lead, of course, poisons young children and so it could be that it’s painted with lead based paint or it could be that it is actually made out of lead.”

Cochran explains that all a person needs to do is type the product code into the website to find if an item has been recalled. She says not to worry if you have bought a recalled product because the CPSC website can help any consumer potentially get their money back. The website will be linked here.
