Saturday’s Carroll Invitational Wrestling Tournament saw Greene County seniors Kale Petersen at 132 lbs. and McKinley Robbins (138) blow by the competition. Both won individual titles to stay undefeated on the season.
Petersen had a first round bye, then pinned his opponent in the finals after recording a technical fall in the semis to improve to 14-0 this season and 27-0 with the Rams since transferring here from West Fork (Sheffield) for the 2021-22 school year. He’s a U. of Iowa wrestling recruit.
Robbins has signed to wrestle collegiately at Oregon State. He had two falls and a technical fall on Saturday and is now 15-0 this season and 131-6 in his varsity career, all with the Rams. He’s 16 wins from tying the late Chase Flack for most victories in program history at 147.
Brent Dennhardt (145) also made the Carroll tournament finals, dropping an 11-6 decision to finish second. He is now 9-2 after not wrestling at all his freshman season due to concussion issues.
Other place winners for the Rams were sophomore Gavyn Winters, third at 106, and sophomore Marcus Ball, fifth at 220. Greene County only filled seven of the 14 weights.
Coach Zach Beekman’s team hosts four others tomorrow night at the high school in Jefferson when Nevada, Saydel (Des Moines), CAM (Anita), and Van Meter visit for the final action of 2022.
