Greene County lost both ends of a girl/boy non-conference basketball doubleheader at Kuemper Catholic in Carroll on Saturday afternoon. The girls’ final was 61-6 and the Knights were 84-54 winners in the boys’ game.
The points were a season low for the girls. The score was 42-6 at halftime and the Rams weren’t able to get on the scoreboard in the second half. Greene County is 0-7 while the Knights improved to 4-3. Turnovers were a major problem for Coach Tori Ogden’s team. Catherine Mayhall’s 14 points led the Knights, who had 11 players score two or more points.
The Knights have won six boys’ games in a row and are now 6-1 while the Rams fell to 3-4. Greene County trailed 41-27 at halftime and the margin was 68-50 at the end of the third quarter. Gabe Ebersole had 17 points and Richard Daugherty 14 for the Rams, who made seven baskets from three-point range. The Knights poured in 14 three-pointers and were led in scoring by freshman Brock Badding with five of the long range baskets and 23 points.
The Rams play a Heart of Iowa girl/boy doubleheader on Tuesday in Nevada to finish the December portion of the schedule. Both games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 pm, the girls at 6 and the boys to follow.
